Working for Justice, Peace, and Compassion

Oak Knoll’s culture of community service is based on its identity as a Roman Catholic, Holy Child School. Responding to the Christian call to justice, Oak Knoll challenges all students to recognize and respond to the needs of others.

Community service hours are not required at Oak Knoll, but every student participates in community service. 

Community service opportunities in the Upper School include:

• An all-campus Service Day when students go off-campus to serve in our community or stay on-campus to serve the Lower School students
  • In addition, students learn about service trips their peers have gone on.
• Monthly service opportunities, which have included Bridges runs, serving meals to homeless men and women at Market Street Mission, tutoring students
• Summer service opportunities, including:
  • Planning for and executing a summer camp for elementary and middle school aged students in Jersey City (Sacred Heart Summer Fun)
  • Planning for and leading an orientation program (along with students from the other Holy Child Network Schools) for incoming fourth graders at the Connelly Center, a middle school in the Holy Child Network located in New York City
• Service trips — abroad and domestic
• Serve their communities through Athletics, Visual Arts, Dance and Music
• Outreach through monetary or other donations to communities in need
• Students are invited to apply to fundraise/host drives for organizations important to them through the HOPE Committee
